The
Universal Nilpotent Rewrite System
Taking part in congresses and
symposia in Europe I have become acquainted with developments in
scientific thought originating in physics which open for a more holistic
understanding of reality. To me this has been a positive experience
where my contributions (the holographic principle in biology and
medicine, acupuncture with light etc.) have found a natural place in a
greater scientific context. In this and hopefully later articles I will
try to mediate information and links to this evolution.
This has to do with
fields of knowledge which it is very hard to concentrate in a language
most people can easily understand, because it has to do highly abstract
levels that are not familiar to the uninitiated. In apparent
contradiction to this I shall here start with what may be a summit in
this development: the Universal Nilpotent Rewrite System developed by
Peter Rowlands at the Department of Physics at the University of
Liverpool.
This is a general
scientific theory at the highest level of abstraction apparently
possible, because the theory takes its starting point in the idea of a
nothing. From this ‘nothing’ or ‘zero’ reality unfolds through two basic
operators: ‘to create’ by adding a new symbol, and ‘to conserve’ by
recreating ‘a nothing’. Through such a successive unfolding new
‘sub-alphabets’ arise without breaking the original condition of
nothingness. It is this which is implied in the ‘nilpotent rewrite
system’.
Through this
logical-mathematical process it is, according to Rowlands, possible to
deduce all fundamental laws of reality through a universal dynamic. In
his main work together with Diaz, B., “From Zero to Infinity”, he shows
several examples of such deductions with the main emphasis on physics.
From the basis of physics in the nilpotent vacuum he thus proves how the
fundamental equation of quantum mechanics of Dirac follows as a
consequence of a more abstract formulation of even broader validity.
This way he argues that the validity of Dirac’s equation is based on a
supra-physical deduction independent of empirical verification.
Rowlands claims that
his Nilpotent Rewrite System comprises all fields of human thought. He
thus shows that it applies to all possible human languages. This way he
claims to have developed a universal semantics.
In biology this is
evidently relevant. Biological beings are individuals and behave like
individuals. This is not possible to explain on the basis that is
one-sidedly analytic and reductive. But it is a natural consequence of
the nilpotent deduction of Rowlands. Each biological individual becomes
a subset in this context. And each part of an individual further becomes
a subset of this. The ECIWO theory thus is a logical consequence of the
universal nilpotent system.
Rowlands’ approach
choosing the empty ‘nothing’ as his starting point thereby creating the
all that is, brings him into a spiritual community of eminent
philosophers, like Plato, Plotin, Kant, Bohm – and we may indeed also
mention Buddha. In a modern context may appear even more ambitious when
he claims to deduce the very basis for the highly developed modern
sciences from a unitary wholeness unfounded from an empty nothing. What
he actually does is systematically to expose the basic codes of the
sciences in order to map the very informatics of reality.
How fruitful this
approach may be in basic physics is clearly demonstrated in a study ‘A
Remarkable Quantum Mechanical Discovery’ which Marcer and Rowlands
presented at the 5th International Symposium of British
Computer Society – Cybernetic Machine Specialist Group – and which is
published in Vol 19 of the International Journal of Computing
Anticipatory Systems. Here they show that the nilpotent Dirac equation
brings a complementary establishment of a 3+1 dimensional, relativistic
space-time, and a quantification of the strong, the weak, and the
electromagnetic forces in elementary particle physics, from a ‘nothing’
in its empty state. And further they demonstrate that this
quantification also includes spin and more massive particles. This turns
out to be in excellent agreement with the experimental values that have
been found in particle physics of the Standard Model.
Rowlands and Marcer
claim that this mathematical language gives a quantum theoretical
explanation of the 3+1 dimensional relativistic space-time as a
fundamental property of physical reality. This is something string
theory for a long time has tried to do, without succeeding so far.
This is just to
indicate that Peter Rowlads in his Universal Nilpotent Rewrite System
may have found a really fruitful way to solve remaining basic problems
in modern physics, thereby possibly formulating ‘a theory of
everything’. This is something we hope to be able to follow up at our
web site. Since we have earlier written about the theory of Santilli and
hadronic mechanics, I will mention that Rowlands during several years
has cooperated with researchers in hadronic physics, including Santilli
himself, and that he has published articles in the Hadronic Journal.
Apparently there is no serious conflict between these two scientific
theories. Both of them try from different starting points to solve basic
problems of physic, and they may well complement each other.
